The Father's Day Message: Hearing God's Voice in Our Daily Lives
This past Sunday, we gathered to celebrate Father's Day and reflect on the vital role that fathers play in our lives. It was a special day, filled with joy and gratitude for all the men who have answered the call of fatherhood. But as we honored these fathers, we were reminded of an even greater calling—our need to hear and respond to the voice of God in our lives.
A Father's Day Blessing
We began by acknowledging the importance of fathers, not just on Father's Day, but every day. Fathers are called to lead, guide, and love their families with the strength and joy that comes from the Lord. As we celebrated this day, we prayed for God's continued guidance, peace, and joy to fill the hearts of every father, empowering them to fulfill their divine role with grace and wisdom.
The Ways God Communicates
The title of our sermon, "The Ways by Which God Communicates," was a timely reminder that, just as fathers communicate love and guidance to their children, so too does our Heavenly Father speak to us. We explored several passages in the Bible that illustrate how God communicates with His people, and how crucial it is for us to be attentive to His voice.
In Ezekiel 43:1-2, we see that God's voice can be powerful and overwhelming, like the sound of many waters. In Matthew 3:16-17, God's voice was clear and affirming as He declared His love for His Son, Jesus. And in 1 Kings 19:9-12, we learn that sometimes God speaks to us in a still, small voice, gently guiding us in the midst of chaos.
The Importance of Consistency in Hearing God's Voice
We were reminded that, to truly experience the possibilities of God in our lives, we must be consistent in listening to His voice. The story of Peter walking on water, found in Matthew 14:28-30, illustrates this beautifully. Peter's ability to walk on water was not due to his own strength, but because he responded to Jesus' command to "come." However, when Peter took his eyes off Jesus and stopped listening to His voice, he began to sink.
The message here is clear: to experience the fullness of God's power and presence in our lives, we must be consistent in hearing and obeying His voice. Whether He speaks through His word, through His prophets, through dreams, or through the Holy Spirit, we must be attentive and ready to respond.
Obeying God's Call
As we concluded the sermon, we were encouraged to obey God's call, whatever form it may take. Whether God is calling you into ministry, to take a step of faith in your personal life, or to simply draw closer to Him, the key is obedience. God will supply every need and equip you for the task He has called you to.
On this Father's Day, as we honor the earthly fathers among us, let us also remember to honor our Heavenly Father by being attentive to His voice and obedient to His call. Just as fathers guide and protect their children, God guides and protects us, leading us into His perfect will and purpose for our lives.
